If it’s a really gentle fabric I will soak in a mix of white vinegar and baby detergent. If it’s velvet I just vacuum it. This dress was tricky because I couldn’t lift it out of the tub, vintage fabrics get so sensitive when wet, so I had to drain the water, then resort two more times, plus 4 rounds of rinsing (this dress was really dirty). Before soaking, always remove zippers.
